I believe your down pipes are glued together. If so, how do you pull the pump? Do you have to cut them apart as they are pulled up?
The ID of my casing is 6.375 inches. Will I be able to pull the submersible with hand pump in place?
Our sales Team Replied:
Thank you for your continued interest in Bison Hand Water Pump. Our pipe/rods are screwed together, not glued. We have installation videos on YouTube that you might find helpful.
You will need to remove the hand pump whenever you need to pull the submersible pump.
Any questions, please feel free to contact me at 1-800-339-2601 .
Hand pumps, unlike electric pumps draw from the top of the water not the bottom of the well. Static water level is defined as the distance between the ground and the top of the water in your well. To determine your static water level, drop a weighted nylon string into the well casing until you hear it or see it splash the surface of the water. Mark the string where it lays on the top of the well casing. Pull the string out and measure with a tape measure from your mark to the weight on the other end of the string.
When the static water level is GREATER than 25′ feet, then you must use a deep well hand pump; as these pumps lift water (not suction like a shallow well pump). Deep well hand pumps can access great depths, but the further down you install the cylinder, the more water you are lifting. This means it will be harder to pump.
The first was born out of necessity during Maine’s Great Ice Storm of 1998, which crippled parts of Maine for several weeks. Over half of our State lost power, some areas for more than 2 weeks. Like many Mainers faced with adversity, Mr. Harbison and his team of plumbers responded to disaster with resilience and innovation. They designed and built what would be the first Bison hand pump, which allowed people whose electric pumps were inoperable in the aftermath of the storm to access the water in their wells. Since 1998, this timely and resourceful design has gained international appeal and application.
Now a strong and growing business with 12 employees, Bison Pumps sells its polished stainless steel products around the country and all over the world. From the woods of northern Maine to the hustle and bustle of Singapore, these pumps are making a difference by allowing people to access well water without electricity. Just recently, a ministry organization bought one of the pumps, which is now helping them provide much needed clean water to people in Haiti.
It is time to set the record straight on some of the comments in blogs or from other hand pump websites. Here are some things being said:
“Bison cannot pressurize a tank.”
Nothing is further from the truth. All of Bison’s pumps can pressurize a tank. We factory tsted our pump and cylinder to 250 psi (for test purposes only). Every spout can accommodate a check valve to make this task easier. For the record, our pumps have always had this capability. As you can see by the pictures below, the picture on the left is the Bison One-Piece Shallow Well Hand Pump and the picture on the right is the Bison Deep Well Inline Hand Pump.
“Bison Pumps “pump harder” and cannot reach as deep as other pumps.”
It is simple physics… deep well hand pumps LIFT water. The deeper you go and the larger diameter the cylinder, the heavier the water will be.
Bison Pumps sells (4) cylinder sizes (1 ½”, 2″, 2 ½”, and 3″) in addition to (3) pipe sizes (3/4″, 1″, and 1 ¼”). We can make pumping your water as easy as you wish always using our 36″ handle for a longer stroke. At Bison, you can have easy pumping AND greater volume.
